Roles in the project
TITLE: Automatic oil-spill recognition and geopositioning integrated
in a marine monitoring network
GOAL: Development of a network of sophisticated electronic,
geopositioning, and telematic tools for the monitoring of
the marine traffic due to carriers and commercial ships
through environmental-sensitive sea areas.
Graal Tech acted as a sub-contractor of CNR (National Council for Research, Italy).
A new Folaga module was realized, hosting an "electronic nose" for detecting the presence of hydrocarbons in water. Commercial hydrocarbon sensors were integrated in a pneumatic circuit, specifically designed and developed for guaranteeing the necessary air circulation, and an embedded system for driving the overall device and transferring measured data to the vehicle CPU was introduced.
Functional tests in La Spezia and at Elba island were then performed with one AUV, for validating the performance of the instrument.
