When dealing with innovative systems for non-standard applications, not always the proper sensing and actuating devices can be found in products commercially available.
If the system under development has, for example, to penetrate in a sandy seabed, the need for a non-standard actuation mechanism evidently arises. Analogously no COTS sensors can currently measure the penetration depth in the sand, which is an information required for realizing an automated burying procedure.
